WELCOME TO THE SHARP END PODCAST

So many outdoor accidents can be prevented.

But would if, somewhere… a culture existed where people could feel comfortable sharing their mistakes without shame or blame?

I am trying so hard to create that very culture.

This is the Sharp End Podcast. A platfrom aimed at ‘minimizing future outdoor accidents by way of storytelling. Real people, sharing real stories.’

No shame, no blame. Simply a place where people can share lessons learned- so every single person in this outdoor community can grow, play hard, and be smart.

The Sharp End Mini Series: Share Your Story!

Hi friends! I am starting to work on a new type of content project for The Sharp End and am now accepting volunteers to share their story!

I would like to feature mini conversations where listeners can submit a brief description of what happened and a 3-7 minute audio recording during their near miss or accident while out in the backcountry. Please fill out this form if you are interested in sharing your near miss! Recordings can be submitted to: thesharpendpodcast@gmail.com

Your vulnerability is SO appreciated and could be instrumental in saving someone’s life. THANK YOU!

Consider buying me chai tea once a month! That’s only $5.00 a month which equals $60.00/year. Not too much to ask, eh? This would help the success of my podcast greatly. If you find that you learn lessons from this podcast, that means you’ve found value here! I invite you to donate to the show and help my podcast grow. Thank you very much to everyone who has supported my growth thus far. I am extremely grateful!

May of 2023, Chris set out to rope solo Virgin Wool (5.8 C2) in Arches National Park. The description of the first pitch read: "5.7 - sporty - no pro.” To Chris, it looked harder than a 5.7 from the ground, and he noticed a seam that he thought he could aid up, so he decided to try and aid climb the route. It didn’t go as planned and he ripped out two cams and fell 10 feet to the ground, landing on his heels before tumbling backwards. After a lot of self reflection (and therapy), Chris learned a bit about the psychology of climbing solo, and a bit more about risk management. Tune in this episode to hear more.
