Meet Ashley!
Hi everyone! My name is Ashley and I am the host, creator, and producer of The Sharp End Podcast. I originally started this podcast in November 2015 (shout out to all my Day One Listeners!) by recording episodes from my van while adventuring on the road. My goal was and still is to share real life stories and lessons with the outdoor community to hopefully minimize future outdoor accidents. Welcome to all my new listeners, too; I hope you have been enjoying both recent and past episodes.
The backcountry, outdoor adventuring, and stories within this community have always fascinated me. I was born and raised in Alaska, which started my love of wild and remote places. I attended military school instead of traditional high school, allowing me to graduate early and began college at age 17 in Sitka, AK before transferring to the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, AK.
I graduated with a degree in Outdoor Leadership, worked for AmeriCorps, and at 21, kicked off my career with Outward Bound in Leadville, CO.
Additional fun facts about me include:
I worked as a Safety Manager for remote wilderness TV shows that filmed in Iceland, New Mexico, the Louisiana Bayous, and all over Alaska.
I have three siblings
I recently got a dog and his name is Quiches
I have two snowmachines that I use to access remote parts of Alaska
I am completely deaf in my right ear due to sudden hearing loss in my twenties
